Returning to work after cancer treatment is a significant milestone, but can seem daunting for patients facing the challenges of cancer treatment. Occupational therapists play a crucial role in helping cancer patients navigate this transition toward a confident and successful return to work.
They focus on improving patients’ ability to perform daily tasks and work-related activities, ensuring they regain independence and confidence to resume their work duties safely and effectively. These therapists specialize in assessing physical, emotional, and cognitive needs, providing tailor-made interventions such as return-to-work plans, targeted exercises, and stress and productivity management strategies to address specific challenges a patient may face.
Occupational therapists also provide employers with Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs). FCEs are comprehensive assessments that measures an individual’s physical abilities and functional limitations. The purpose of an FCE is to determine a person’s capacity to perform work-related tasks and activities. This evaluation helps in creating rehabilitation plans, assessing readiness to return to work, and making recommendations for workplace accommodations or ergonomic modifications.Bottom of Form
