A diagnosis of cancer may have a profound effect on the patient and family’s physical, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life.  The psychosocial problems that may occur include:

 

  • Difficulty dealing with the diagnosis.
  • Feeling emotionally distant from family and friends
  • Changes in the functioning of the family
  • Problems with making decisions.
  • Concerns about not being able to do what you enjoy.
  • Work-related problems or returning to work after the treatment.
  • Worries about the financial implications.
  • Stress about making choices about care.
  • Problems talking about how you are feeling.
  • Changes in how you feel about your body and sexual self.
  • Grief
  • Fear of cancer coming back
  • Fear of death and dying
  • Concerns about being able to provide good care for your loved one with cancer.
